The Hamilton Heights boys basketball team dropped two tough home games last week.
The Huskies lost a close Hoosier Conference East Division contest to Western 47-45 last Friday. Heights started out hot, leading 19-15 after the first quarter. Gavin Saunders threw in four 3-pointers during the period.
The second quarter was more defensive, but the Huskies held a 27-21 lead at halftime. The Panthers came back in the third period to cut Heights’ lead to 33-32, then edged ahead in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Huskies 15-12.
Saunders finished the game with 20 points. Tyler Champion dished out five assists; he, Carson Felger and Dreydin Serna all had four rebounds. Serna scored eight points.
Heights dropped an 84-67 game to West Lafayette last Saturday. The Red Devils outscored the Huskies in each quarter, leading 20-16 after one and 37-28 at halftime.
Four Heights players reached double figures. Saunders and Jack Kakasuleff both totaled 15 points, while Rees Knapp and Serna each scored 11. Kakasuleff drained three 3s.
Serna collected eight rebounds, while Champion had six rebounds and four assists.
The Huskies are 4-4 and play this weekend at the Ryder Realty Holiday Classic at Switzerland County. Heights takes on Paoli at 11 a.m., then plays two more games in the tournament.
