CARMEL – The University girls basketball team dropped a home game to Bishop Chatard on Thursday, 64-38 at the U Center.

The Class 2A Trailblazers scored the first basket of the game, a layin from Taylor Seay. But the 3A Trojans took over after that, putting up 10 straight points for a 10-2 lead and eventually taking a 16-6 advantage by the end of the first quarter.

Chatard led 23-8 in the second period before University went on an 8-0 run. Seay scored four points and Leah Norvell made a 3-pointer. That cut the Trojans’ lead to 23-16, but they were able to build it back up to 30-19 by halftime.

“Honestly, I think we did a good job in certain areas,” said Trailblazers coach Lisa Pryor. “We did achieve some of the goals that we had as far as rebounding and turnovers were concerned. We knew they were going to be good. We knew they were big and long and things like that. We made certain adjustments and I thought we did well in certain areas.”

Chatard scored 21 points in the third quarter and led 51-28 going into the fourth. Norvell scored five points for University during that period. The Blazers kept the fight going in the fourth quarter, with Anyah Turley scoring eight points.

“I don’t care what the scoreboard says,” said Pryor. “We have to continue to work on things that we need to work on, because there’s a bigger picture than just tonight. I will reiterate that until I’m blue in the face. That Mamba mentality, you don’t stop until it’s over. I will give them credit: in every single one of our games, they continue to fight, no matter what’s happening, and so I appreciate that about them.”

Seay finished the game with 15 points, while Turley scored 10. Norvell made two 3s on her way to eight points.

University is 4-5 for the season. The Blazers are back in action next Friday at the Carroll tournament, where they play Western in their first game.
