The Fishers boys basketball team beat Mount Vernon 77-46 on Saturday, keeping the Tigers perfect for the season at 4-0 and securing coach Garrett Winegar’s 100th career victory.

Fishers was in control the entire game, leading 22-8 after one quarter and 44-23 at halftime. The Tigers nailed 15 3-pointers during the game, with Millen McCartney and Zachary both making four triples each.

McCartney and Gardner each totaled 14 points, while Zachary finished with 12 points. Kirby and Logan Sigler both scored nine points, with Hall and Nathan Baker each adding seven points.

The Tigers head to Southport on Saturday to play Crispus Attucks.

Carmel’s boys kept their strong start to the season rolling last Saturday with a 52-30 win at Plainfield. The Greyhounds led 13-4 after the first quarter and 19-11 at halftime. Carmel then cruised through the second half, outscoring the Quakers 33-19.

Couto finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Harrell scored 12 points and Dickerson added 10 points and five rebounds. Fountain also collected five rebounds.

The Greyhounds are 3-0 and play Friday at Noblesville.

Gray’s buzzer beating three-pointer in overtime gave University a thrilling 55-54 win over Greenwood Christian Academy last Saturday night at The U Center.

The Cougars’ Ben Comeford had put the visitors ahead 54-52 with seconds left. The Blazers eschewed using their final timeout and Gray buried the 22-footer from the left wing.

Gray led University with 20 points. McComb had 11 and Mohamud 10.

The Blazers made their first six field goal attempts and 8 of 12 in the first quarter to lead 19-6 after one.  Gray had eight points in the opening period. University stretched their lead to 26-9 midway through the second quarter on a Josh Henderson basket, however the Cougars crawled back to 29-19 at halftime.

University’s offense went stagnant in the second half and the Blazers struggled at the free throw line making just 4 of 11 charity tosses in the fourth quarter.  Greenwood Christian tied the game at 48 on a Comeford rebound basket with 22 seconds left. University’s final attempt was off the mark.

Zien Bland hit two foul shots to open overtime before Evan McIntyre’s three gave GCA their first lead of the game at 51-50. After a Cougar foul shot, McComb and Noah Cortez each split a pair of foul shots to knot the game at 52 to set up the final heroics.

University is 2-0 on the season and travels to Cardinal Ritter Tuesday night, then hosts Liberty Christian in a Pioneer Conference division game.

The Hamilton Southeastern girls basketball team picked up two victories at the Evansville North Showcase this weekend.

First, Southeastern used a big third quarter to pull away from Evansville Memorial last Friday in Royals’ first game at the Showcase. Southeastern outscored the Tigers in each quarter: the Royals led 15-7 after one quarter and 28-12 at halftime, then dominated the third quarter by a 25-8 margin to take a 53-20 lead.

Maya Makalusky earned a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds, also making three 3-pointers and dishing out four assists. Kayla Stidham scored 12 points and collected seven rebounds. Kennedy Holman totaled six points, five rebounds and four assists for the game.

Southeastern returned to Evansville North last Saturday and beat the host Huskies 44-29. Evansville North led 9-4 early before the Royals came back to tie it at 10-10 by the end of the first quarter. The game was tied 18-18 at halftime, then HSE rolled through the third period 10-0 for a 28-18 lead. Royals coach Brian Satterfield said his team played “great team defense” and called it the turning point of the game.

Makalusky scored 16 points and collected seven rebounds with Stidham adding 10 points. Holman scored nine points, dished out five assists and made five steals.

The Royals are 10-0 for the season. Southeastern hosts Pendleton Heights on Tuesday then plays at Avon Friday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

The Fishers girls basketball team played at the Evansville North Showcase on Saturday, splitting two games.

In their first game, the Tigers beat Gibson Southern 60-45. Schellhammer led the Fishers scoring with 24 points, while Dickman added 18 points.

The Tigers fell to undefeated Floyd Central 51-41 in their second game. The Highlanders led 27-19 at halftime. Dickman finished with 23 points for Fishers.

Fishers is 8-3 and hosts Noblesville on Thursday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

Hamilton Heights girls basketball to fell at Connersville 61-38 last Saturday. The Spartans led 31-15 at halftime.

Brown was again the Huskies’ leading scorer with 12 points, making three 3s. Brown also collected seven rebounds and dished out five assists. Cherry scored 10 points.

Heights is 0-9 and hosts Logansport Tuesday in a Hoosier Conference East Division game. The Huskies welcome West Lafayette Saturday afternoon.

The Royals got their first win of the season last Saturday at Marion, 75-67. Southeastern led 22-19 after the first quarter, then ramped up its defense for a 44-27 halftime lead. The Royals led 49-27 early in the third quarter, then held on as the Giants made a run in the second half.

Maverick Young led the HSE scoring with 15 points, followed by Totten with 13 points and Landon Osswald with 11 points. Jacobs handed out six assists and collected five rebounds.

The Royals are 1-2 and host Brebeuf Jesuit on Friday, then play at Christel House on Saturday.
