The University baseball team split a pair of games to start the week.

On Monday, the Trailblazers beat Pioneer Conference North opponent Muncie Burris 24-2. Griffin Wright had three hits for University, with Cooper Burnett and Jimmy Caldwell both getting two hits. Caldwell and Caleb Stocker both totaled three RBIs, while Burnett and Ryan Castetter each scored three runs. Hunter Canning got the pitching win, with eight strikeouts over four innings.

On Tuesday, University fell to Brebeuf Jesuit 11-10 in eight innings at the Braves’ field.

Brebeuf led 4-0 after two innings, but the Blazers came back with five runs in the third. Cooper Cammack batted in Caldwell, Castetter’s left field double brought in Cammack and Jasper Owens, then Hamby smashed a two-run home run, also scoring Castetter.

University then added five runs in the fifth inning. Wright scored on Schellhase’s sacrifice fly, then Cammack blasted a right field to double to bring in Oliver Kingery, Burnett and Caldwell. Owens singled in Cammack to give the Blazers a 10-4 lead.

The Braves came back, however, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth, then a run each in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game. Isaiah Frank hit a left field single in the eighth inning for the winning run.

Owens and Cammack both had two hits. Beckett Suh threw five strikeouts in four and two-thirds innings.
