The Hamilton Southeastern girls soccer team picked up a hard-fought Hoosier Crossroads Conference win at Brownsburg, 3-2 on Wednesday.

The Class 3A No. 2 Royals scored the game’s first goal. Kate Noel got a header on a corner kick and Riley Boyd put it away for the goal. The 3A No. 14 Bulldogs made a penalty kick with five minutes left in the half, and thus the score was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Brownsburg took a 2-1 lead early in the second half, but Southeastern came back to score the next two goals. Boyd tied the game at 2-2 by blasting a long-distance kick into the net, then Sloane May got the game-winner, with Ayla Conn assisting.

“Brownsburg played very hard and will do well to knock off some teams in the HCC,” said Royals coach Greg Davidson.

Southeastern is 2-0 in the conference and 5-0-1 overall, and hosts 3A No. 3 Noblesville Saturday evening in another HCC game. The Millers won their conference opener on Wednesday at Avon, beating the Orioles 2-0.

Noblesville is 3-0 overall.

Fishers, ranked 18th in 3A, dropped its HCC opener to 3A No. 5 Zionsville Wednesday at home.

“I’m happy with our effort and the way we played,” said Tigers coach Harold Spooner. The coach noted that his team is in a stretch of playing six top-15 ranked teams, but still believes there is potential for Fishers.

“So, the results aren’t coming, but as long as we keep getting better, I still have high hopes for this team,” said Spooner.

The Tigers are 1-3 overall and play at Carmel on Saturday morning.
