Westfield residents are invited to gather in remembrance of the men and women who gave their lives in service to this nation during the annual Memorial Day Ceremony, set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20 at the Fallen Hoosier Heroes Memorial, 401 N. Union St.
“Serving alongside my fellow countrymen and women as a proud U.S. Marine is one of the greatest honors of my life,” Mayor Scott Willis said. “While I’m eternally grateful to all who have served, Memorial Day is a time to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy, and hold the families who carry that loss close to our hearts.”
Gold Star father and Indiana State Representative David Abbott will serve as the ceremony’s keynote speaker. The ceremony will feature remarks from local veterans, including Mayor Scott Willis. The Westfield Community Choir will also perform a special selection of songs in tribute to the fallen heroes.
As part of the ceremony, all attendees will be invited to place a carnation at the base of the Fallen Heroes Memorial in remembrance of their sacrifice.
Free parking available at Christ United Methodist Church, 318 N. Union St., and Westfield High School with a complimentary shuttle provided to transport guests to-and-from the ceremony location.
This outdoor event is free and open to the public, though registration is requested. To register for the Memorial Day Ceremony or learn more, visit westfieldin.gov/memorialday.
