Tennis: Fishers wins all-county battle with Noblesville

The Noblesville and Fishers girls tennis teams began their season Tuesday at the Tigers’ tennis courts.

The No. 2-ranked Tigers, last year’s state runners-up, beat the No. 14 Millers 4-1. Fishers swept the singles matches, with No. 1 Mischa Briggs beating Bella Duncan 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 Izzy Mokra winning 6-3 6-2 over Allie Stamm and No. 3 Caroline Ober getting a third-set super tiebreak victory over Josie Flinchum, 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.

Noblesville’s No. 1 doubles team of Lina Hamashuk and Cami Crist got the Millers’ victory edging out the Tigers’ Emma Beehler and Cassie Maurer 6-0, 4-6, 7-5. Fishers’ Maddie Barron and Meredith Ober won the No. 2 doubles match 6-1, 6-0 over Daniella Tuesca and Ava Chevillet.

Noblesville took on another ranked team Wednesday, playing No. 25 Lawrence North in the first-ever dual meet at the Millers’ new tennis center.

The Wildcats won 3-2. In singles, No. 2 Stamm was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Briah O’Neal. No. 1 Duncan fell to Issy May 6-2, 6-2, while No. 3 Flinchum dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match to Taylor O’Neal.

Hamashuk and Crist won at No. 1 doubles, beating Maddie Dell and Sabriana Hardaway 7-6 (5), 6-4. At No. 2 doubles, Olivia Gadis and Chevillet fell to Taylor Hodges and Marah Kolber 6-1, 6-2.

“We lost to a very tough and much improved LN team today,” said Noblesville coach Kevin Lindley said. “Their number one singles player is one of the favorites to win state. They are a top-10 program.”

The Millers are back in action tonight, hosting No. 5-ranked Zionsville.

Westfield, ranked No. 9, won its season opener on Tuesday, beating No. 20 Brownsburg 4-1 at the Bulldogs’ courts.

No. 1 singles Juliette Grilliot got a 6-0, 6-1 win over Emma Tranter. The Shamrocks won the other two singles matches easily, with Alana Raymond victorious 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 and Addi Kooi getting a 6-0, 6-0 shut out at No. 3.  In doubles, No. 2 Olivia Krauss and Bri Saylor won 6-0, 6-7 (5), 6-0.

Westfield plays at No. 13 Avon tonight.
