Richard Dee Thompson

Richard Dee Thompson was born on September 30, 1947, in Crawfordsville, Ind., to Roy and Emma Thompson. Richard was a compassionate, humble, and funny man who met life with a supportive spirit and a heart full of service. He spent his life leading others to Christ as a pastor, and his devotion to his faith was unwavering. Richard passed away on July 28, 2026.

Richard was a man who lived his life for others. He was married to his beloved wife, Deborah Camille Thompson, on October 17, 1970. Together, they built a loving family. Their son, Nick Thompson, was his pride and joy. Richard’s dedication to his family mirrored his commitment to his congregation. He served as the head pastor at several locations, including Hugo, Okla.; Hammond, Ind.; Plymouth, Ind.; Rochester, Ind.; and Zanesville, Ohio. His pastoral commitments led him to various places, but his heart always remained with his family and his faith. Richard retired in 2013, leaving a legacy of spiritual leadership and humble service behind him.

Richard was not only a spiritual guide but also a humble leader. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a flight deck leader, a testament to his courage and commitment to his country. He was a voracious reader, with a particular fondness for the Bible. He journaled avidly, capturing his thoughts, prayers, and reflections. Richard enjoyed taking long walks, woodworking in his spare time, and attending Beef and Boards with friends and family. Richard’s life was a testament to his faith, his love for his family, and his desire to serve others.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Roy Thompson; mother, Emma Thompson; brother, Bill Thompson; and sisters, Ellen Mason, Beulah Thompson, and May Thompson. We will remember him as a man of faith, a loving husband, a supportive father, and a friend to many.

Visitation for Richard will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the same location with Ken DePeal officiating.
