The Carmel girls soccer team rebounded from its Saturday loss to pick up two big wins this week.
On Monday, the Greyhounds cruised past Plainfield 5-1 in their home opener at Murray Stadium. Freshman Olivia Joyce scored Carmel’s first goal just under three minutes into the game, then junior Megan Hamm added a second goal a few minutes later. Hamm’s score was assisted by junior Emily Boyer.
The Quakers scored on a corner kick late in the first half, making the halftime score 2-1. But the ‘Hounds quickly scored to open the second half. Rylie Wilpolt put in Carmel’s third goal off a Joyce assist. Camryn Love scored the Greyhounds’ fourth goal, with Hamm making the assist. Olivia Cebalo completed the Carmel scoring, off a Sophie Shepherd assist.
The Greyhounds followed that up on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over South Bend St. Joseph. Carmel scored its goal in the 74th minute; Ani Nelson made a corner kick that turned into a header goal by senior Claire Simmonds.
The ‘Hounds are 2-1 and play Saturday at Guerin Catholic.

Noblesville’s boys soccer team opened its season Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Perry Meridian at Hallmark Orthodontics Soccer Complex.
The Millers controlled the first half, finally breaking through when senior Jackson Montgomery intercepted the ball at midfield. Montgomery sent the ball to AJ Tippner, who put it in the net for his first-ever varsity goal. Noblesville was able to hold the lead throughout the second half, with Cole Thompson making multiple saves as goalkeeper.
The Millers host Carmel on Thursday in a re-match of last season’s Class 3A state championship game.

Guerin Catholic’s boys team opened its season with a 5-0 victory against Cardinal Ritter in a Tuesday home game.
The victory was the first for new Golden Eagles head coach Jim Alvarez. Guerin Catholic plays its next game next Tuesday at Heritage Christian.

Hamilton Southeastern’s boys team opened its season Saturday with a 3-1 win over Mount Vernon.
Oscar Tittle scored the Royals’ first goal of the game. The Marauders tied the game right before halftime, but Southeastern took care of business in the second half, with Tittle assisting goals from Owen Gopsill and Rex Randy.
The Royals played Cathedral on Tuesday, with the game ending in a 0-0 tie. Southeastern is 1-0-1 and plays Saturday afternoon at Carmel.

Carmel’s boys team played to a 1-1 tie with Pike on Monday.
Senior Colin Fettig scored the Greyhounds’ goal, with junior Nick Basso making the assist.
“Tonight’s game was another hard fought battle,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “I felt we moved the ball a bit better tonight and created more scoring opportunities. We will continue to work hard and fight the mix.”
The Greyhounds are 0-0-2 and play Thursday at Noblesville.

Sheridan’s girls team dropped its opener at Southmont Monday evening 2-1.
After a scoreless first half, the Blackhawks got the game’s first goal with 22 minutes left in the second half when Emma Alexander sent a cross to Cecilia Timme, who put it in the net. But the Mounties tied the game minutes later, then scored the game-winner with 15 seconds left.
Sheridan hosts Frankfort Thursday for its home opener.
