Amy Shinneman was born with an undiagnosed neuromuscular disease that causes very weak muscles and affects her ability to walk.

She has never had the opportunity to run, but thanks to the help and support of her family, along with a device called a duo chair, she has been able to participate in multiple marathons, including both the Chicago and New York City Marathons in 2021, the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon last November, and her family’s next stop is the famed Boston Marathon on April 17, 2023.

“We are again running for MDA through Team Momentum,” Shinneman told The Reporter. “We have set our biggest fundraising goal yet at $30,000. It’s a big goal, but we feel like we can do it.”

Team Momentum is the MDA overall team name, while the Shinnemans’ individual team is still Humbly Courageous.
