Rosie Brown, the information lady, to retire next week

The County Line

Rosie Brown, an old friend of not only mine, but many others in downtown Noblesville, retires next week. She has been the “information lady” and switchboard operator for county government for the past 47 years.

Anyone visiting the Government and Judicial Center has probably spoken with her. If someone comes to the building for the first time, Rosie can give expert directions. And for regular visitors, it may be a friendly exchange of small talk as one passes her front desk.

Rosie knows Hamilton County like the proverbial back of her hand. She began doing her job in 1976 when county offices and courts were all crowded into the old Courthouse. She moved to the new building in 1992 with the courts and many of the county offices.

She was never too sold on computers, and still has most necessary information in her head. She is going to be hard to replace.

Rosie grew up in the Fishers area, the daughter of Russel and Opal Johnson, and graduated from Fishers High School. In recent years she and her late husband, David Brown, moved to the Sheridan area. Rosie is the mother of two adult daughters.

Rosie’s last day on the job will be Wednesday. At her request there will be no retirement party, so her old friends and acquaintances may want to stop by and wish her well.
