November 8, 1946 – September 7, 2025
Norman Dale Riley was born on November 8, 1946, in Indianapolis, and passed away on September 7, 2025. A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Norman was known for his funny, compassionate, courageous, and loving personality.
Norman dedicated 20 years of his life as a firefighter to the City of Carmel, retiring in 2000. His bravery and dedication were recognized by his colleagues and community, earning him the title of Fireman of the Year three times and multiple merit awards.
Aside from his professional life, Norman was passionate about his hobbies. He was a tinkerer who loved to work on his yard, a history buff with a particular interest in aviation, and an avid Star Wars and Sci-Fi enthusiast. He was known as “Dad-quest” to his daughters due to his excellent navigational skills. One of his favorite pastimes was to go hiking with his wife, Candy. Above all, Norman was a man of faith and a devoted family man. He served as a Deacon and sang in the choir at Cicero United Methodist Church, demonstrating his commitment to his faith.
He is survived by his daughters, Jessica (Jason) Kindig, Jacqueline (Andy) Strange, and Jennifer Newby; his grandchildren, Lucas Strange, James Newby, Katelyn Wilson, Elizabeth Newby, Riley Kindig, Sadie Kindig, Jacob Kindig, Madison Kindig, Michella Kindig, and Vivian (Nick) Grafe; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Mary Gingerich, Linda (Yvonne) Cook-Riley, Helen Riley, and Sheila (Tron) Hardy; and several nieces and nephews.
Norman was widowed from his wife, Earlene Riley, and was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Elizabeth Riley, and brother, David Riley.
