Mary Anna Hadley

January 24, 1920 – November 25, 2021

Mary Anna Hadley, 101, Sheridan, passed away on Thursday afternoon, November 25, 2021, at Independence Villages of West Zionsville. Born on January 24, 1920, in Boxley, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Eddie R. and Ruth H. (Henderson) Cline. She attended Boxley Grade School and was a graduate of Sheridan High School.

In the late 1930s, Mary Anna met her future husband, Charles Darrell Hadley, on a blind date. She and Charles were married in Tipton, Ind., on August 20, 1938, and would spend the next 59 years by each other’s side.

She was a member of the Boxley United Methodist Church, and in later years attended the Sheridan First United Methodist Church.

Mary Anna retired as an assembly worker from Western Electric in 1979 after 20 years of dedicated service. She and Charles wasted no time heading south to spend their retirement years in Florida, far away from the cold Indiana winters. Charles passed away on May 28, 1997, and Mary Anna decided to move back to Indiana to be closer to her family.

During her working years, Mary Anna held many positions within various companies, but the title she was most proud of was whatever name those she loved the most knew her by: mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, or friend. Raising her family of 10 children was her greatest joy, and she enjoyed passing along her knowledge of sewing, crocheting, gardening, and most of all, cooking for her family and friends.

Mary Anna is survived by her daughters, Diana Fitzpatrick of Naples, Fla., Teresa (Dan) Perry of Brownsburg, Deborah (Kevin) Estrada of Goodyear, Ariz.; sons, Jean Allan (Shirley) Hadley of Pittsboro, Ind., James Hadley of Boxley, Richard D. Hadley of Bloomington, Ind., Michael Hadley of Peru, Ind.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ivan Cline; sisters, Avalon Hiatt, Thelma Burroughs, Ina Fox, Erma Barker, and Carolyn Long; sons, Charles Hadley, Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and Steve Hadley of Avon, Ind.; daughter, Janice Carol Folds of Tampa, Fla.; and by her loving husband, Charles Hadley.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Boxley Cemetery in Boxley, Ind. Visitation will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan.

Mary Anna’s family would like to say a very special “thank you” to everyone from Guardian Angels Hospice of Kokomo for their beautiful and thoughtful care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to the Sheridan First United Methodist Church, 207 E. 2nd St., Sheridan, IN 46069.
