Julie Lee Grimes

July 24, 1959 – April 29, 2025

Julie Lee Grimes, a loving and resilient soul, passed away on April 29, 2025, at the age of 65. She was born in Tipton, Ind., on July 24, 1959, to Eugene and Mary Alice Henderson.

A dedicated wife to her late husband, Patrick Grimes, and a generous and caring mother to her children, Julie’s spirit will forever be cherished. As the American author, Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Julie made everyone around her feel loved and valued.

Julie, a lifelong resident of Indiana, was a woman of many talents and interests. She worked diligently as an office manager before retiring, demonstrating her thoughtful and caring nature. She was also a proud business owner, operating PJ’s Cafe in Frankton with her beloved Pat. Julie’s love for the outdoors was evident in her hobbies that included camping, fishing, gardening, and boating. She also loved riding motorcycles and keeping up on NASCAR with her late husband. Julie attended the Atlanta Christian Church when she could, but was always a woman of strong faith. Her true passion was for her friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren, which always shone through.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in her surviving son, Amos Benefiel, and her daughters, Elizabeth “Nikki” Benefiel and Maggie Salazar. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kameron Courtney, Gabriel Taber, Hayden Benefiel, Olivia Benefiel, Brinley Benefiel, Nora Salazar, Amelia Benefiel, and Francesca Salazar; brother, Matt Henderson; and sister, Gaye (Don) Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mary Alice Henderson; her husband, Patrick Grimes; her grandson, Elijah Benefiel; and her siblings, Tom, Joe, Jon, Edna, and Faye.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Hartley Funeral Homes, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at Hartley Funeral Home. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4).
