Tuesday night was the Hoosier Conference opener for the Hamilton Heights softball team. The Huskies welcomed the Western Panthers in the first game of the two-game series this week.
A trio of extra-base hits were the key factors as Hamilton Heights downed Western at home, 4-1.
The Panthers scored in the top of the first. Brynley Erb tripled and then scored on a ground out.
Heights tied it 1-1 in the bottom. Hannah Dent tripled with two outs and then scored on a passed ball.
Then, with two down in the fourth, Heather Crays singled to center. Crays scored to make it 3-1 when Dent sent a home run over the fence in right.
Kamryn Rhoton hit a solo blast to center to account for the final run of the game.
Cray’s threw a complete game, striking out two and giving up just two hits in seven innings.
Hamilton Heights (5-0, 1-0 Hoosier) travels to Russiaville to visit Western (2-3, 2-1 Hoosier) tonight at 6 p.m. in the second game of the conference series.
