Softball: Rocks fall to Bulldogs

The REPORTER

The Westfield softball team was on the wrong end of a comeback at Brownsburg on Tuesday, falling 5-4 in an away Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

The Shamrocks scored in the first inning when freshman Carlynne Schrock hit a two-out home run. Westfield added three more runs in the top of the third inning: Makayla Watson got home on an error, then Schrock blasted her second homer of the day into left field, also bringing in Sofia Easterhaus.

Brownsburg scored three runs in the bottom of the third, cutting the Rocks’ lead to 4-3. The Bulldogs then scored twice in the sixth inning to take the game.

Schrock and Reese Mahannah both had two hits. Olivia Sampia threw four strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

Westfield is 0-2 in HCC play and 3-4 overall. The Shamrocks play tonight at Greenfield-Central.
