December 3, 1926 – October 3, 2025
Helen Jean Jones, 98, Sheridan, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 3, 2025, at Homewood Assisted Living Center in Lebanon, Ind. Born December 3, 1926, in Boone County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Muriel (Fredenburg) Brandenburg.
She was a devoted member of Hills Baptist Church in Kirklin, Ind. She was very active within the church for many years.
Helen grew up on the family farm, learning very early in life the meaning of hard work and tenacity. After graduating from Kirklin High School with the Class of 1944, she went on to study at Indiana Business College. Upon finishing her coursework, she went to work as a secretary with General Electric, a position she held for many years.
With the wind at her back, Helen decided that, before she settled down, she wanted to do a little travelling first. After spending time in Europe and California, she eventually made her way back home to Indiana. When people reminisce about their travels, coming home is usually not the best part of the story. However, in Helen’s case, homecoming was the beginning of a new adventure: that’s when she met that man who would change her life, Noel “Casey” Jones. Casey and Helen were married on November 24, 1972, and for the next 40 years they shared every moment. Her love for travel never faded; she always enjoyed discovering and exploring new places. She even got Casey hooked, somewhat, on traveling. For many years they enjoyed the snowbird lifestyle, spending the winter in Tavares, Fla. They looked forward to catching up with their Florida-based friends and seeing what had changed in the area since their last trip down.
The simple things in life were what Helen treasured the most. Playing cards with friends, listening to music, and traveling were some of her favorite activities, but no matter the occasion, visiting with friends and family was always the highlight. Helen had the gift of conversation and loved making new connections. Her warmth, kindness, and companionship touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Helen is survived by her stepson, Ronald Dean Jones of Lizton, Ind.; step-grandson, Russell Curtis “Rusty” Jones of Lizton, Ind.; and numerous extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Muriel (Fredenburg) Brandenburg; three brothers, Donald Brandenburg, Lawrence Brandenburg, and Orville “Chubb” Brandenburg; daughter-in-law, Becky Jones; five sisters-in-law, Edith Nesbitt (and husband Hershell), Grace Moore (and husband Raymond), Wilma Pearson (and husband Morris), Eunice Edison (and husband Truman), and Olive Jones; and by her beloved husband, Noel E. “Casey” Jones on September 5, 2011.
Services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation from noon until the time of service. Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan. Pastor Sherri Drury will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to Hills Baptist Church, 4296 S. County Road 1380 East, Kirklin, IN 46050.
