A third-inning surge gave the Westfield softball team a home win over Pendleton Heights on Thursday.
The Shamrocks beat the Arabians 7-3 at Monon Trail Athletic Complex. The Arabians scored the game’s first run in the first inning, with Westfield getting on the board in the second inning. Bella Blakeley hit a two-out double, then scored on a Sydney Jordan single.
Pendleton Heights jumped ahead 3-1 in the top of the third after hitting a two-run double. But the Shamrocks rebounded quickly in the bottom of the third. Dylan Todd led off with a home run, then Makayla Watson singled to get on base and was sent home on a Sofia Easterhaus double, tying the game at 3-3.
Cam Pulice hit a sacrifice fly to score Easterhaus, moving Westfield ahead 4-3. Blakeley singled in Annika Lawrence before scoring on an error, and the Rocks led 6-3.
Easterhaus batted in another run in the sixth inning, scoring Jordan with an RBI fielder’s choice.
Watson, Easterhaus, Blakeley and Jordan all had two hits. Olivia Sampia pitched four innings, striking out six.
Westfield is 3-3 and is off for Spring Break, returning to action Tuesday, April 14 at Brownsburg.

Carmel dropped a 4-1 game to Mt. Vernon Thursday at Cherry Tree Softball Complex.
The Greyhounds scored their run in the seventh inning. Chloe Junkersfield led off with a double then scored on Tinsley Malek’s left field single.
Riley Petrites also had one hit for Carmel. Emily Smith pitched three innings, striking out four.
The Hounds are 2-3 and host Floyd Central next Friday, April 10.
