December 25, 1931 – March 28, 2026
Margy Marie Spurgeon, a beloved resident of Arcadia, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, at the age of 94.
Born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1931, to Cleo and Isabelle Law, Margy was a special gift to her family. She grew up as one of six children, including her older brother Charles, and her younger siblings Sue, Nancy, Elizabeth (Beth), and David.
Shortly after graduating from Jefferson Township, Margy married the love of her life, Walter Earl Spurgeon, on May 22, 1949. Their devoted marriage lasted 45 wonderful years until Earl’s passing in 1995.
Margy and Earl were blessed with four children: Claude Spurgeon (wife Debra), Pamela Razo (husband John, deceased), Gary Spurgeon (wife Jody), and Anita Small (husband Xen). Her enduring legacy of love extends to 10 cherished grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Throughout her 94 years, Margy dedicated herself to various endeavors, but she found deep fulfillment in serving others and supporting her community. She worked alongside her husband, assisting him at Earl’s Electric Shop, and was a longtime fixture at Weight Watchers, where she worked for many years. Margy also generously gave her time, volunteering at Angels’ Attic (formerly the location of Earl’s Electric Shop) since its inception nearly 25 years ago.
Margy’s memory will be a beacon of light for all who knew her. She will be most remembered for her remarkable strength and determination, coupled with her sharp wit and unwavering faith. Above all, Margy’s life was defined by her immense and unconditional love for her family.
Funeral services will be held at Hartley Funeral Home in Cicero at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation prior to the service, which will be held from noon to 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Angels’ Attic in Arcadia.
