Softball: Fishers wins two to stay perfect

The Fishers softball team stayed perfect on the season with two early-week wins.

On Monday, the Tigers took care of Center Grove 5-1 at home. Fishers scored a run in the first inning when Adrianne Cook batted in Kennedy Shockley.

Brooke Clayton smacked a two-run home run in the third inning, bringing Shockley home and giving Fishers a 3-0 lead. The Trojans scored their run in the top of the sixth inning, but Anna McGrath answered with a homer in the bottom of the sixth, also scoring Grace Walterman.

Shockley finished the game with two hits. Frankie Jackson pitched three innings for the win.

The Tigers traveled to Harrison Tuesday and used a late rally to win 5-2. Both teams scored two runs in the first inning; Jackson doubled in Shockley and Clayton.

The score stayed 2-2 until the seventh inning. Cook led off with a right field home run, putting her team ahead for good. Joni Oliver scored on McGrath’s sacrifice fly, then Liv McNall singled in Caroline Thompson to complete the scoring.

Oliver got the pitching win, throwing five innings and striking out four.

Fishers is 4-0 and is off until April 10 when it travels to the Castle Invitational.

Noblesville cruised to a 15-1, five-inning victory at McCutcheon Tuesday.

Haley Schatko had a dominant game, smacking two home runs. She finished 4-for-4 at the plate and totaled seven RBIs. Reese Newsom also hit two homers and had three RBIs and three runs scored. Blythe Walker hit one home run. Izzy Zapp scored three runs.

Roslyn Ervin pitched four innings, tossing eight strikeouts and allowing one hit.

The Millers are 2-0 and host Avon this evening to begin Hoosier Crossroads Conference play.

Hamilton Southeastern rolled to a 15-4, five-inning home win over Greenfield-Central on Tuesday.

Haleigh Seitz and Jaycee McCarter both hit two home runs, while Madison Burlingame hit one homer. McCarter, Brooklyn Fritsche and Sophia Feher all hit one double. McCarter was 3-for-3 at the plate, batting in three runs and scoring three.

Grace Swedarsky pitched four innings for the win, striking out seven.

The Royals are 3-0 and off until April 10, when they will also play at the Castle Invitational.

Guerin Catholic won a tough game at Beech Grove 6-5 on Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Aggie Weymouth scored on an Emily Powers RBI fielder’s choice, then Kate Brady got home on Jillian Davis’ sacrifice fly.

Powers doubled in Waymouth and Brady in the fifth inning, then got home on an Izzy Phillips single, giving Guerin Catholic a 5-0 lead. The Hornets put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Gia Crishon singled in Davis to put the Golden Eagles up 6-4. Beech Grove scored one in the seventh inning, but the game ended on a pop out to Halle Hunter in left field.

Crishon got three hits, including a triple and a double. Ava Augustinovicz pitched a complete game, striking out five and allowing three hits.

Guerin Catholic hosts Lapel this afternoon.
