Appreciating Mr. Chuck Sears

Editor’s note: The Sheridan Student Column is brought to readers by Sheridan High School’s Accelerated English 9 class, taught by Ellie Arrowood.

For the past four years at Sheridan Middle School, Chuck Sears has been teaching eighth-grade math. Overall, he’s been teaching for 42 years.

The Hamilton County Reporter wrote, “Before joining Sheridan, Sears taught seventh- and eighth-grade science at Cowan Jr./Sr. High School and coached junior varsity boys basketball for two years. He then taught math and coached varsity boys basketball at Morristown Jr./Sr. High School for two years. He spent 29 years at Belzer Middle School teaching seventh-grade science and coaching boys’ basketball and girls’ softball, earning a Teacher of the Year award. He also taught Algebra at Beech Grove High School for five years.”

Chuck Sears is a wonderful math teacher. He’s so kind and has a great sense of humor. He is also patient with students who don’t understand math, while being encouraging and making it feel less stressful. Mr. Sears teaches math in a way that helps students of all levels understand, even when it gets stressful. We want to thank Mr. Sears for always being there for his students and understanding how to teach math in a way that all students can understand.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Mr. Sears won the Rookie of the Year award. This award is for teachers who are in their first, second, or third year of teaching at Sheridan Community Schools and who have demonstrated outstanding teaching. Sheridan Middle School appreciates Chuck Sears because he is an outstanding math teacher, and he teaches all students as equals. Also, during this same time, he won the Shining Star Award. This award is given to a teacher who has been working with SCS for fewer than five years and has made a big impact in a short amount of time.

Overall, Mr. Sears has made Sheridan Middle School a better place.
