Golden Eagles pick up first conference win of season

Guerin Catholic won its first Circle City Conference game of the season Friday, beating Covenant Christian 54-50 in a hard-fought game at the Eagles Nest.
The Warriors led the Golden Eagles 13-12 after the first quarter, then went up 25-19 in the second period before Guerin Catholic trimmed that lead to 29-26 by halftime. The Golden Eagles battled through a close third quarter to get within 44-42 by the end of the third period, then outscored Covenant Christian 12-6 in the fourth.
Robert Sorensen led GC with 13 points, making three 3-pointers along the way. Lucas Parker added 11 points and had seven rebounds, while Jack Cherry added 10 points and six rebounds. Sorensen and Will Grissom both collected five rebounds and Grissom dished out five assists.
Guerin Catholic is 1-2 in the conference and 7-6 overall. The Golden Eagles travel to Brebeuf Jesuit next Friday for another CCC contest.
