On Wednesday, community leaders and 15 volunteers gathered at the Llama Barn at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds to help fight food insecurity, thanks to the Duke Energy Foundation and Good Samaritan Network (GSN).

GNS donated $25,000 and Duke donated $50,000 to provide food for Hamilton County families in need. That $75,000 was turned into 800 boxes of non-perishable food staples, which volunteers packed from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

In addition to community volunteers, officials on hand to help included Duke Energy Indiana President Stan Pinegar, Duke Energy Indiana Government and Community Relations Vice President Marvin Blade, GSN Executive Director Nancy Chance, Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen, and Hamilton County Commissioner Mark Heirbrandt.

According to Chance, during this 40-year high period of inflation there are 42,000 families who have been impacted to the point that they are in need of food, especially during the holiday season.
