Sue Finkam, Carmel City Council president, announced Saturday that she will run for Senate District 20 in the upcoming caucus to fill the seat held by longtime Senator Luke Kenley.

“After speaking with local business and community leaders, it is readily apparent they are looking for a champion who will lead with a laser-like focus to advance the interests of the four unique, fast-growing Hamilton County communities that make up this district,” said Finkam. “I will listen, learn and work tirelessly around the clock to ensure local needs are put first.”

“However, it’s not enough for me to just fill this seat. I want to reinvent it. I am an innovative, anticipatory leader who lacks patience with the status quo. I look forward to working with local leaders to craft a new role description for Senate District 20 that ensures Hamilton County is boldly represented and effectively positioned for success.”

A successful marketing professional for many years, Finkam is proudly employed by Indiana Donor Network as director of external engagement, overseeing a team of 25 people that strives to educate Hoosiers how they can save lives through organ, tissue and eye donation. She is serving in her second Carmel City Council term, and is currently council president. Additionally, she has experience in a variety of community roles and leadership activities, including:

  • Vice Chair, Invest Hamilton County
  • Chair, Carmel PorchFest
  • Chair, Association of Organ Procurement Organizations Public Education/Public Relations Committee
  • Member, AIM Transportation Committee
  • Alumna, Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series, Class 33
  • Alumna, Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series
