Baseball: Rocks run circles around Brownsburg

The Westfield baseball team won a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game with Brownsburg 8-1 Thursday at Grand Park.

The Bulldogs scored their run in the top of the first inning, but the Shamrocks scored twice in the bottom of the first. Drew Law led off with a triple, then Brayden Hibler singled him home for the first run. Hibler later scored on Alex Rudolph’s RBI fielder’s choice.

Westfield put up three runs in the third inning, all on one hit. Rudolph blasted a double into right field to bring in Gabe Garcia, Ian Wilson and Matt Drozlek. The Shamrocks added three more runs in the sixth inning, starting with a two-run inside the park home run from Hibler. Nick Fero also scored. Wilson got the final run of the game, getting home on a wild pitch.

Ty Anderson pitched six and two-thirds innings for the win, striking out 10 with no walks and allowing only two hits.

Westfield improved to 3-0 in HCC play and plays at Brownsburg tonight to complete the conference series. The ‘Rocks are 7-1 overall.
