Ascension St. Vincent extends mammogram clinic hours

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ascension St. Vincent is offering extended hours for mammograms in October to help more women get this life-saving screening.

  • Ascension St. Vincent Anderson, Carmel, Indianapolis, Fishers, and Kokomo are all open for mammograms from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 28.
  • Ascension St Vincent Carmel also offers extended hours on Saturday, Oct. 7 and Tuesday evenings.
  • Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis offers extended hours Saturday, Oct. 14 and Wednesday evenings.

“It’s very, very important. A mammogram screening is the best way to find any potential breast health problems,” said Karen Terrell, Outreach and Education Coordinator at Ascension St. Vincent Cancer Care Services. “It needs to be something that people are comfortable talking about, encouraging your family and friends to get a mammogram.”

Mammograms are the gold standard for breast cancer detection, and Ascension St. Vincent Breast Centers and Mobile Mammography unit use 3D mammography technology, which has shown to catch more cancers and provide more conclusive results.

“Initially when a lady may get a diagnosis of ‘you have cancer,’ it might initially seem like a death sentence, but because we can get cancer so early through regular mammograms, it’s not,” Terrell said. “It’s very treatable and many women fully recover from it and never have any other issues.

Patients can call to schedule their mammograms at (317) 338-9595. Online scheduling and more information are available at ascension.org/StVincentMammogram.

For those unable to schedule in October, Ascension St. Vincent Carmel always offers extended hours the first Saturday of the month and Tuesday evenings, and Indianapolis always offers hours the second Saturday of the month and Wednesday evenings.
