It took a little while, but the Carmel girls tennis team finally picked up its second win of the season Tuesday at the Todd Witsken Tennis Center.
The No. 1-ranked and defending state champion Greyhounds are 2-0 after a 5-0 win over No. 25-ranked Guerin Catholic. Carmel won four of the five matches 6-0, 6-0, with No. 1 doubles Hallie Reeves and Thea Bertolini winning 6-1, 6-0.
Greyhounds coach Bryan Hanan said that his team was ready to go, and while Carmel hasn’t played very much so far, its schedule “really picks up starting this week.” The ‘Hounds play at West Lafayette today, then host their own Invitational on Saturday, “which we haven’t had the last four years because of rain and COVID,” said Hanan. The coach also said his team is excited for Saturday, as all of the team’s competing in the invitational are ranked in the top 15.
And while playing Carmel is always tough, Golden Eagles assistant coach Lynn Trott said her team played well, focusing on the things it could control.
“We battled up and down the courts. I thought our girls played well,” said Trott.
