Three Hamilton County residents are gaining experience as interns with the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2022 legislative session.

Scott Berghoff, a Noblesville High School graduate, is the son of Patrick and Cathy Berghoff. After majoring in law and public policy, he graduated from Indiana University in December with a degree in public affairs.

“Working at the Statehouse as an intern has been such a fascinating experience,” Berghoff said. “It’s an amazing opportunity to get to know legislators as they pass laws impacting the entire state and to be a part of that process.”

As a legislative intern, Berghoff corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.

“Our internship program is an incredible way for students and recent graduates to get involved in local government and learn about the legislative process while at the Statehouse,” said State Rep. Chuck Goodrich (R-Noblesville). “I truly enjoy the opportunity to work with such bright and talented people from Hamilton County.”

Becca Foerder, a graduate of Guerin Catholic High School, is the daughter of Mark and Liane Foerder. She recently earned a degree in journalism from Ball State University.

“This internship has been a truly life-changing experience,” Foerder said. “I have learned so much from my time at the Statehouse, and it’s been incredible to meet and work with so many inspiring people.”

Tedra Spuller, a Fishers resident, is an East Noble High School alumna. She graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in December with a degree in marketing and economics.

“I would highly recommend this internship to anyone who is interested in law, politics or communications,” Spuller said. “In addition to being an incredible learning experience, it’s also very rewarding to work with lawmakers and staff to serve Hoosiers across the state.”

As communications interns, Foerder and Spuller work alongside press secretaries to help write press releases, record and edit videos, create legislative handouts, update webpages and produce podcasts.

“I’m impressed each year with the talented interns that our program attracts,” said House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers). “It’s great to see interns like Scott, Becca and Tedra utilize the skills they gained in the classroom here at the Statehouse.”

Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of the legislative session.
