Sheridan Middle School’s Cooking Club and Wilderness Club recently teamed up for a hands-on lesson that brought together cooking and outdoor adventure.
The clubs joined forces to learn about fire safety and responsibility while preparing their own dinners over an open fire. Students learned how to prepare and work together safely to create a fun outdoor meal.
One of the sponsors, Sarina Marquis said, “It was a really cool opportunity for the two clubs to come together, with each group having a unique skill to show off and share with their fellow students.”
Of course, no outdoor cooking adventure would be complete without dessert. The students topped off their tasty lesson with a campfire favorite, s’mores! The learning didn’t stop when the food was gone. Students also practiced the principle of Leave No Trace before wrapping up the activity. Everyone worked together to clean up the area, making sure the fire was properly extinguished and all trash and materials were picked up.
