On Saturday, Aug. 29, the parking lot outside Bierman Autism Centers, 16414 Southpark Drive, Westfield, will look a little different. There will be a fire truck. A police car. Construction vehicles. And a whole lot of kids who have always wanted to climb in.
Bierman Autism Centers’ Touch-a-Truck event, set for 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 29, is a free, sensory-friendly outdoor event designed specifically for children with autism and other developmental needs, while welcoming siblings, caregivers, and the broader community. Families can expect a calm, predictable morning with the flexibility many children need to feel at ease in new experiences.
What families can expect
- Up-Close Truck Exploration: Climb in, look around, and meet the community helpers who drive them every day.
- Activities and Games: Hands-on fun designed for all ability levels.
- Snacks: Because no summer event is complete without them.
- Center Tours: Come see our space, meet our team, and learn more about what we do.
- Sensory-Friendly Comfort Zone: A quiet corner available all morning for anyone who needs a break.
This event is free and open to all families. While Touch-a-Truck is designed with children with autism and other developmental needs in mind, siblings, friends, and caregivers are all warmly welcome.
“These aren’t just fun mornings; they are carefully designed experiences,” said Elizabeth Henry, MS, BCBA, COBA, EVP of Service Delivery at Bierman Autism Centers. “Every element, from the vehicle lineup to the quiet corners to the pacing of the event, is built with the child in mind. The goal is a morning where every family leaves feeling like it was a win.”
