September 15, 1951 – June 10, 2026

Michael R. Bloom, 74, passed away on June 10, 2026, in Cicero.
Born on September 15, 1951, Michael (affectionally known as Big Mike or Papa) lived a remarkable life defined by intellect, determination, innovation, and, above all, devotion to his family. He graduated from St. Peter High School and went on to attend Gustavus Adolphus College, where he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in physics, finishing near the top of his class. His academic achievements earned him acceptance into medical school, but Mike chose to enlist in the Aviation Preflight Indoctrination program at the Naval Aviation Schools Command in Pensacola, Fla., during the Vietnam War to pursue his dream of becoming a fighter pilot. He trained as a military aviator until an honorable discharge due to a medical condition redirected his life’s journey.
Mike’s curiosity, ingenuity, and entrepreneurial spirit led him to a highly successful career as an entrepreneur and environmental engineer. He became nationally recognized for his pioneering work in centrifugal technology, earning respect throughout the country. His professional accomplishments reflected the same qualities that defined his personal life: intelligence, creativity, perseverance, and a willingness to tackle difficult challenges.
Mike’s greatest accomplishment was not found in his career, but in the family he cherished. For 52 years, he shared a loving and devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Kathleen (“Kac”) Bloom. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.
Mike was a proud father to Ryan Bloom of Cicero, Kevin Bloom and his wife, Nikki, of St. Peter, Minn., and Molly Bloom and her husband, Matt, of Cicero. He delighted in watching his children grow and create families of their own.
Nothing brought Mike greater joy than being “Papa.” He leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren: Aiden and Henry; Fletcher, Huxley, Bourne, Rhodes, Bloom, Winslet, Astoria, and Viggo. He took immense pride in each of them and treasured every opportunity to spend time together, celebrate milestones, share stories, and create lasting memories.
Mike was also a lifelong fisherman whose happiest days were often spent fishing. Family and friends knew him as someone who could always find the fish, and fellow anglers regularly sought his advice and fishing tips. His love of fishing never faded. On the very day of his passing, Mike spent time doing what brought him joy most of all – fishing – and proudly caught four bass and three sunfish.
Mike will be remembered for his brilliant mind, entrepreneurial success, and countless professional achievements. Most importantly, he will be remembered as a husband, loving father, proud grandfather, trusted mentor, loyal friend, and a man whose life was measured not by what he accomplished, but by the people he loved.
Mike will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing and an inspiration to those whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Hamilton North Public Library, 209 W. Brinton St., Cicero.
