Zelma Mae Hunt (Pickett)

Zelma Mae Hunt (Pickett), 91, Noblesville, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Zelma was born on July 28, 1934, in Knoxville, Tenn. She was adopted in 1938 by Bernard and Mary Pickett of Noblesville, where she was lovingly raised and grew into a vibrant young woman. She graduated from Noblesville High School in 1952.

An enthusiastic cheerleader, Zelma cheered for three years alongside her twin sister Velma and the Lockridge twins, Phyllis and Betty. In April 1953, Zelma and Velma shared a beautiful double wedding at the First Methodist Church in Noblesville – the first double wedding ever held at the church.

Zelma worked at the Army Finance Center in Indianapolis, at Pickett’s Cafeteria in Westfield (owned by her parents), and later at Aero Drapery in Westfield.

Everyone who met Zelma knew her as a kind and generous person. She was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church on 9th Street in Noblesville. Zelma loved music and cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed participating in Card Club with close friends, and later in life, she and Bob retired to Venice, Fla., where they happily attended the many social events at the clubhouse where they lived. After returning to Noblesville, she looked forward to regular gatherings with dear friends at the Jim Dandy Restaurant, caring for her beloved pets, and enjoying her favorite television programs. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Zelma is survived by her sons, Robert K. “Keith” (Renee) Hunt Jr. of Indianapolis, Bernard R. “Bernie” (Jessica) Hunt of Bloomington, Ill., David A. (Sandralee) Hunt of Colorado Springs, Col., and her daughter, Mary M. Hunt. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert K. “Bob” Hunt, Sr.; her twin sister, Velma Fae Barker; her sisters, Eva Marie Davis and Dorothy Phyllis Cinnamon; and her brothers, Paris B. Pickett and Emmert Shipley.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2026, at Lincoln Memory Gardens Cemetery in Whitestown, Ind., with Reverend Richard Bell officiating. A private family visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday June 5, 2026, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville.
