Come to the movies with me!

I am going to talk about some of my favorite movies. I am like my dad in more ways than one, but probably the way I’m most like him is that I prefer movies over books. While these are my favorite movies, I believe they have rewatchability.

The first movie is Impractical Jokers: The Movie. This is a movie based on the show “Impractical Jokers” which is an amazing comedy featuring Joe Gatto, Sal Vulcano, James Murray, and Brian Quinn. Similar to the show, the movie shows the hosts challenging people to do pranks. If the person fails, they are punished, which are just as embarrassing as the prank itself. Whoever loses the most challenges gets punished, and both punishments and challenges are pretty publicly embarrassing.

The next two movies are Enola Holmes 1 & 2. These are both great mystery movies with many other themes involved. Both are inspired by Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This is from its own book series The Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer. The movies are set in 1884 England with the main character being Sherlock Holmes’ sister, Enola. If you ever watch either of these movies, you’ll notice Enola breaks the fourth wall by talking to the audience multiple times. Some can find this annoying, but it also can be pretty endearing and makes the audience feel like they are solving the mystery with her.

Another one of my favorite movies is Spider-Man Homecoming. I love the other two of these Spider-Man movies, but this one is the best. Viewers get to watch Peter as he gets more used to his power and handling a threat by himself. The dynamic between him and Tony Stark develops as well. This movie, just like any other Marvel movie, has some great comedy, but also takes its time with some action.

The next movie is another Marvel movie, but a good one: Black Widow. This movie dives into the past of Natasha Romanoff, an orphan turned spy, as she tries to end the Red Room permanently. While she tries to achieve this goal, she simultaneously joins up with her non-biological sister, Yelena Belova, and non-biological parents, Alexei and Melina. This movie shows great action and emotion between the characters as they are not biological families, but complete the theme of a found family.

This will be my last Marvel movie for my list, which is a more recent movie: Thunderbolts. This movie takes place after Avengers: Endgame when there is no Avengers team. It goes to a new team being made, the Thunderbolts. Though at the beginning no one gets along, in order to defeat a common enemy, they have to work together. This movie does have an underlying theme of depression, as they end up going through a lot of the characters’ darkest times.

My next selection will once again be two movies grouped together: the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Wonka (2023). Both of them show how having a big imagination isn’t such a bad thing and can bring fun in life. I have loved the original Wonka movie for years so I was excited to hear about the Wonka movie. I loved getting to see Wonka’s past and I feel like they portrayed it well.

My final movie is Mufasa. I loved how they told the backstory of Mufasa and Scar. There are multiple dynamics that show how Mufasa and Scar become enemies, even though they are brothers. The music in this movie was also great, and I fell in love with most of the songs once I heard them. Many of the songs are upbeat and can get you into the groove, but there are also smooth and chilling villain songs to go with it. This movie is great for anyone who loved The Lion King and is curious about the backstory to most of the characters from it.
