Throughout the week, buildings, storefronts, and landmarks will light up in green – the organization’s signature color – symbolizing hope, potential, and possibility. BBBSCI encourages everyone to participate by wearing green, decorating offices or homes, and sharing stories of mentorship on social media using #PaintTheTownGreen.

“Paint the Town Green is all about uniting the community to celebrate the power of mentorship,” BBBSCI CEO Darcey Palmer-Shultz said. “It’s an opportunity to honor the amazing Bigs, Littles, and families we serve and to inspire more people to get involved in creating brighter futures for kids in our community.”

How to get involved

  • Wear Green: Show your support by adding a green to your wardrobe all week long.
  • Light It Up: Businesses and organizations can “go green” by decorating spaces or lighting up buildings.
  • Share the Message: Post your green photos and stories on social media using #PaintTheTownGreen or #PTTGwithBBBS and tag @BigBroBigSisIND plus sign up for a free and delivered yard sign at BeBigforKids.org.
  • Join the Celebration: Top off the week at The Main Event on Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Fishers Event Center, featuring special guest Tamika Catchings, four-time Olympic gold medalist and Hall of Famer.

Why it matters

BBBSCI serves thousands of youth annually by creating and supporting professionally guided, one-to-one mentoring relationships. These matches empower Littles to build confidence, improve academic performance, and unlock their full potential.

Research shows that kids in BBBS mentoring relationships (“Littles”):

  • Are 20 percent more likely to enroll in postsecondary education
  • Earn 15 percent more over their lifetimes
  • Build greater confidence, belonging, and resilience

“Every young person deserves someone in their corner,” Palmer-Shultz said. “Paint the Town Green is our way of showing kids across Central Indiana that this community is here for them and cheering them on every step of the way.”
