John Lowes, Chief Deputy of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, has been elected 2nd Vice President of the Southern Police Institute Alumni Association (SPIAA).

The announcement came during the 73rd annual SPIAA Training Conference, held in Boston, Mass., where law enforcement leaders from across the country gathered for professional development, networking, and training centered on lessons learned from major incidents.

Lowes’ election follows his successful two-year term as Secretary of the organization and positions him to be elected SPIAA President at the conclusion of his current term. The SPIAA is a professional association made up of graduates from The Southern Police Institute, a division of the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Louisville, one of the foremost law enforcement training programs in the nation.

“I am honored to continue serving my peers in SPIAA leadership, and am grateful for the opportunity to hone our skills and train for any situation,” Lowes said. “The SPIAA serves as an invaluable resource to me and my colleagues as we seek to learn from past incidents, train on the newest technologies, best practices and tools, and become better equipped to serve our communities. I look forward to our continued efforts as we work to keep Hamilton County one of the safest places to live in Indiana.”

In addition to Lowes’ election, it was announced that the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will host the 76th annual SPIAA Training Conference in July 2028, bringing law enforcement leaders from across the country to central Indiana.

Chief Deputy Lowes brings more than 25 years of law enforcement service to the community and is a Republican candidate for Hamilton County Sheriff.
