Central Indiana Vintage Vehicles’ (CIVV) 35th annual Father’s Day Car Show was held over the weekend in Forest Park on – you guessed it – Father’s Day. The show was primarily open to people with cars built prior to 2000, though CIVV welcomed newer models that had been customized.
Proceeds from this show were donated to The Elysian Foundation to benefit the residents of Normal Life of Sheridan, home-based care program for people with severe brain injuries.
One standout vehicle at the show was a teal-colored 1946 Chevrolet half-ton pickup belonging to Steve Mayhew. At the CIVV show, a hand-written sign on the front grill of Mayhew’s vehicle read: “Not a show truck … just a truck to show. My daily driver.”
When asked about his ’46 Chevy, Mayhew told The Reporter he’d owned it for approximately seven years.

“We had to shove it up on a trailer when I bought it,” Mayhew said. “It didn’t run, didn’t stop, no brakes, nothing. And I got it running. It had a six-volt system in it, but a 12-volt motor. The motor was just set in. It didn’t run, and so I went from bumper-to-bumper redoing everything. It took all winter into the early spring to get it to where it was drivable.”
Mayhew said the CIVV car show was his first outing with the truck, though he is an old hand at classic car events. Mayhew has driven in parades and entered car shows with other vehicles since 1983.
Since it was Father’s Day, Mayhew told The Reporter about the most recent addition to his family: a grandson born in Hamilton County on July 7. Congratulations, sir!
