Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation receives $1,000 grant from Duke Energy Foundation

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) has received a $1,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to enhance recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The grant will be used to acquire new equipment for CCPR’s Adaptive Culinary Creations program, offered by CCPR Recreation Programs.

The Duke Energy Foundation provides more than $30 million in grant funding annually to support the needs of communities where Duke Energy customers live and work. The Foundation is committed to reducing structural barriers and expanding access to opportunities for underserved populations.

Culinary Creations is a month-long program designed for young adults and adults with disabilities. It teaches participants how to prepare healthy recipes they can make independently, helping build essential life skills and confidence in the kitchen.

“We want to provide our participants with every opportunity to increase their self-sufficiency, independence and confidence,” CCPR Inclusion Program Supervisor Kelvin Solares said. “Cooking materials wear down over time, and new, accessible technologies are constantly being developed. Thanks to the Duke Energy Foundation, we can purchase updated equipment to provide a safer and more consistent cooking experience for our participants.”

Individuals interested in participating in the Culinary Creations program can register here. The program fee is $65. For more information on CCPR’s Adaptive programming, visit carmelclayparks.com/programs/adaptive.
