Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad has installed new interpretive signage at Hobbs Station in Noblesville, thanks to a grant from the MIBOR REALTOR® Association.

The project was celebrated with an open house on Thursday, April 17, where local realtors were invited to tour the depot, view the signage for the first time, ride a railbike, and take a short caboose ride.

The signage highlights the history of the Nickel Plate Road and the role of the railroad in central Indiana. The project was funded through MIBOR’s Community Impact Initiative, which supports efforts that strengthen and connect communities across central Indiana.

A special thank-you goes to the local committee that helped shape the content and direction of the signage. Members included Brenda Myers, Toni Dickover, David Heighway, David Crisler, Jessica Layman, Jim Lindgren, and Bryan Glover.

“This signage project has greatly enhanced the visitor experience at our depot,” Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad Executive Director Emily Reynolds said. “Guests now have the opportunity to learn about our railroad’s history and its impact on this community while visiting us.”

The new signage is located throughout Hobbs Station, including the platform area and passenger waiting space. Each panel includes photos, timelines, and short stories designed to educate and engage visitors of all ages.
