The Canadian Celtic ensemble StepCrew brings together three styles of exhilarating dance forms – Ottawa Valley stepdance, Irish stepdance and tap. With virtuosic dancers and musicians from the likes of the Chieftains, Cherish the Ladies and Bowfire, this cast of outstanding talent takes you on a dance journey, as champions in their respective art forms show audiences the amazing similarities and differences between these three captivating styles. The StepCrew also boasts three world-class fiddlers backed by an amazing five-piece ensemble comprising some of the most talented and respected musicians in the Celtic music scene today.

Brooklyn Charmers is a Steely Dan tribute band comprised of some of Chicago’s top players. With masterful precision and obsessive dedication to the music, Brooklyn Charmers injects a new energy into the beloved catalogue, bridging the gap between new and lifelong fans alike. Steely Dan’s blend of rock and jazz, along with their infectious hooks and clever lyrics, put them in another league in the eyes of critics and fans. Their prolific and consistent output throughout the 1970s cements them as classic rock royalty. Brooklyn Charmers are excited to carry the torch into the new generation.

Drummer extraordinaire Carl Palmer leads a tour celebrating the legacy of progressive-rock supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer. The trio were known for their classical influences, instrumental virtuosity and a string of platinum albums in the 1970s that made songs such as “Lucky Man,” “From the Beginning” and “Karn Evil 9” staples of rock radio. With full cooperation from the estates of his late bandmates, Keith Emerson and Greg Lake, Palmer developed this production, which combines live performance by Palmer and his current band with video of Emerson and Lake from a 1992 ELP concert.

Dustbowl Revival: A Laurel Canyon Retrospective

Dustbowl Revival offers a fresh take on timeless classics from the late 1960s folk-rock wave, including songs by Joni Mitchell, the Mamas and the Papas, the Doors, CSNY and Brian Wilson, as well as the 1970s radio hitmakers from the second wave: Carole King, James Taylor, the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Three Dog Night and more. Hailing from Venice Beach, California, Dustbowl Revival is renowned for its signature harmony vocals, soulful horn section and ripping rhythm section of drums, bass and electric guitar. Going into their second decade on the road, the collective has toured to 11 countries and counting.

Grupo Niche is a Colombian salsa orchestra formed in 1979, recognized by critics and the public alike as the most successful in Latin America during the last four decades. The award-winning ensemble was founded in Bogotá by the late composer and arranger Jairo Varela Martínez before resettling in the western city of Cali. The group is known for its prominent horn arrangements, up-tempo African rhythms, and hits such as “Cali Pachanguero” and “Una Aventura” that have become standards of the genre. Grupo Niche’s latest album is Niche Sinfónico, recorded with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia and named Best Salsa Album at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards.

GRIMMZ Fairy Tales

Old Town Family Series

GRIMMZ Fairy Tales is a new play for children that centers on two modern-day street performers, Jay and Will, who bring the time-honored stories of the Brothers Grimm to life with a contemporary urban spin. Performed in hip-hop style amid a brick landscape with graffiti and flashing lights, the featured tales include “Cinderella Remix,” “Rapunzel” and “Snow White & the Seven Shawties.” The production was developed by the New Jersey-based Experiential Theater Company in partnership with the North Carolina-based Children’s Theatre of Charlotte.

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers

Formed in 2002 in Scotland, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers have become a global phenomenon with their unique fusion of rocked-up bagpipes and clever covers of popular songs from all genres. Their “bagrock” sound mixes traditional pipe tunes like “The Flowers of Scotland” and “The Hills of Argyll” with more recent anthems such as Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and Coldplay’s “Clocks.” A nine-piece ensemble of pipes, guitars, keyboards and drums, they gained international fame after winning top prize on the U.K. TV talent show When Will I Be Famous in 2007.

Classical Series

As a pianist, educator and philanthropist, Lang Lang is a leading figure in classical music and one of the world’s most influential ambassadors for the arts in the 21st century. Heralded by the New York Times as “the hottest artist on the classical music planet,” the Chinese-born virtuoso has collaborated with the world’s top conductors and orchestras, been seen by billions of viewers at the Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony in Beijing, and performed at the Grammy Awards with Metallica, Pharrell Williams and Herbie Hancock. The program will feature works of Fauré, Schumann and Chopin.

The Great American Songbook Foundation hosts a screening of a new PBS documentary, a live talkback with the filmmakers and host Debby Boone, and a display of costumes worn by Peggy Lee, Mitzi Gaynor, and other stars.

Peanut Butter & Jam: Katherine Nagy & Friends

Tickets: $10 per child, includes up to two free adult admissions

Raised in Ireland, singer-songwriter Katherine Nagy and her band will perform her original Irish-inspired songs, as well as familiar Irish tunes, and share stories filled with Irish tradition. Designed for children ages 1 to 7, Peanut Butter & Jam sessions engage young children in the arts.

Live at the Center: Hank Ruff and the Hellbenders

Indiana native Hank Ruff tours nationally with his modern take on classic country music, combining rock energy with traditional sounds of steel guitar, fiddle and banjo. His 2022 EP Hellbender hit No. 1 on the iTunes all-genre chart.

Group Vocal Coaching
6:15 p.m. Wednesdays, March 12 to April 2

Cost: $90 for four sessions

Cabaret and theater veteran Todd Neal leads this class for teens and adults who enjoy singing and would like to improve their vocal delivery. No previous training is required.

Luminaries: Choreographing Dance Narratives with Iris Rosa Santiago

Iris Rosa Santiago is a choreographer, an Afro-Puerto Rican immigrant and professor emerita of Indiana University Bloomington. Her presentation will focus on various ideas, philosophies, thoughts, feelings and lived experiences that inspire her storytelling in the dance discipline. Dance narratives can be political, historical, social and cultural, and this provides a plethora of material from which to choose. She will share some videos of past choreographic pieces that illustrate her creative work.
