Westfield farmhouse to transform into 13-bedroom assisted living home for people with Alzheimer’s & dementia

Sigma Builders and Legato Living have announced the start of construction on their first Indiana-based residential assisted living facility.

Sigma Builders is leading remodeling and building services to transform a beautifully preserved turn-of-the-century farmhouse located at 601 S. Union St., Westfield, into a 13-bedroom senior residence for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. This Legato Living home will be locally owned and operated.

Furthermore, a ribbon cutting event to kick off construction will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at the home.

Legato Living designs its homes to help memory care residents maintain the lifestyle they were accustomed to while sharing the amenities and comforts of a single-family residential home, purchasing and remodeling homes in South Carolina, Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, Arizona, and now Indiana. Legato Living focuses on smaller facilities, recognizing that larger memory care facilities are often too large for some individuals as the disease progresses. Sigma Builders is partnering with Legato Living to remodel and construct the residence, scheduled to open in 2025.

“Sigma Builders is proud to provide our services and expertise to the Legato Living team, which prioritizes resident well-being through a holistic and comprehensive approach,” Sigma Builders Founding Partner Dave Berman said. “Our combined commitment to creating spaces designed for family moments and comfortable living align perfectly and we look forward to helping Legato Living welcome its first Indiana residents in a few months.”

Legato Living chose the location of its new facility in Westfield due to its accessibility and nearby amenities, combined with the charm and safety of the city, to allow residents and their families to easily spend quality time together inside and outside the home.

“We are dedicated to building homes that provide warm and welcoming environments for residents,” said Andy Hein, owner of the Legato Living home in Westfield. “Our emphasis on communal spaces and innovative therapies, like music therapy, take the whole person into account so they can truly thrive and feel at home.”

The boutique model ensures each resident has a five-to-one caregiver to resident ratio on average and can benefit from the group’s extensive wraparound services, including physical and cognitive care, respite and adult daycare, health care services, and hospice care.

Sigma Builders and Legato Living will also soon begin work on a 10-bedroom Carmel location, Legato Living at Brookshire, located at 4423 E. 116th St., expected to open in late 2025.
