Carmel dropped a high-scoring home game to Ben Davis Friday 58-30.

The Greyhounds got the first points of the contest after Nate Williams brought in a 45-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Coellner. The Giants responded with a long TD pass of their own to tie the game at 7-7.

Williams and Coellner teamed up again for another eight-yard touchdown reception, but Ben Davis answered with a 70-yard kickoff return, tying the game at 14-14.

Ben Davis opened the second quarter with a field goal to go up 17-14. Dominic Shockley took the ball in from the one-yard line to give Carmel a 20-17 lead, but the Giants scored twice in the final three minutes for a 30-20 halftime lead and would stay in front for the entire second half.

A four-yard touchdown pass from Coellner to Jacob Bellin brought the Hounds within 30-27 late in the third before Ke’Sean Stone caught a six-yard TD throw with 29 seconds left, giving Ben Davis a 37-27 lead. Lukas Kristhanmoorthy kicked a 35-yard field goal early in the fourth, but Alijah Price’s 84-yard kickoff return was the start of 21 unanswered fourth-quarter points for the Giants.

Coellner totaled 255 passing yards, going 23-of-42 from the air. Four Carmel players had at least five receptions: Bellin caught seven passes, Shockley had six receptions, and Williams and Liam Mann both had five.

The Greyhounds are 3-4 and play next Friday at Warren Central.
