Softball roundup: Millers move past McCutcheon, Westfield wins over Western

The Noblesville softball team won 13-7 at McCutcheon Monday.

The Mavericks led 3-0 after four innings. The Millers began their rally with two runs in the fifth inning: Neaveh Nash scored the first run when Izzy Zapp hit a sacrifice fly, then Gabby Fowler sent a solo home run into left field.

McCutcheon put up two runs in the top of the sixth for a 5-2 lead. But Noblesville took over after that, with 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Macie Duvall led off the inning with a home run, then Delaney Rundle doubled in Addi Emmerson and Bella Hughes to tie the game.

Reese Newsome hit a two-run single to score Rundle and Zapp, then Fowler scored on Mack Harvey’s RBI fielder’s choice. The bases were loaded, and Emmerson emptied them with a grand slam to center field, also scoring Newsom, Duvall and Harvey.

That gave the Millers a 12-5 lead. The Mavericks got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth, but Noblesville scored one more run in the seventh: Newsom singled in Rundle for her third RBI of the game.

Rundle also hit a double during the game, while Zapp, Fowler and Newsom all had two hits. Lulu Van Beek pitched three innings for the win, striking out five.

The Millers are 14-9 and play a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game tonight at Brownsburg.

Westfield scored a walk off win over Western Monday by the score of 5-4.

The Panthers put up two runs in the top of the first inning. The Shamrocks got one back in the bottom of the first when Sofia Easterhaus scored after Cara Snedeker reached on error.

Westfield went up 3-2 in the fourth inning. Reese Mahannah got on with a two-out double, then Chloe Tanner blasted a home run into left field to score them both.

Western tied the game in the fifth inning, then led off the top of the eighth with a home run for a 4-3 lead. But Snedeker tied the game with a double to bring in Makayla Watson, then Grace Fanelli sent a double into right field, sending Snedeker home for the winning run.

Snedeker also hit a double during the game. Shea Vohs went six innings, striking out four.

Westfield is 11-11 and plays an HCC game today at Avon; the game was postponed from Tuesday due to the weather.

Guerin Catholic dropped a tough 13-12 game Monday at North Central.

The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the first inning: Brooklyn Fritsche singled in Madi Cain, then Anna Mauch scored on a passed ball. Guerin Catholic added three runs in the third inning, with Fritsche getting home after Kate Brady drew a bases-loaded walk. Lauren Brady and Natalie Eiler both scored after Cain reached on error, giving GC a 5-0 lead.

The Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the third. The Golden Eagles put up four in the top of the fifth. Lauren Brady scored when Lucy Kemp drew a bases-loaded walk, then Kate Brady got home on a passed ball. Fritsche sent a base hit into center field to bring in Mauch and Kemp, and Guerin Catholic led 9-3.

The Golden Eagles scored three more runs in the top of the sixth. Lauren Brady stole home plate for GC’s 10th run, Kate Brady got home on Fritsche’s RBI fielder’s choice, then Cain scored when Lillian Everts drew a bases-loaded walk. Guerin Catholic led 12-3, but North Central scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, then put up eight runs in the seventh to get the win.

Mauch, Kemp, Fritsche and Lauren Brady all had two hits, with Fritsche totaling four RBIs.

The Golden Eagles are 1-14 and play Friday at Scecina.

Sheridan fell to Tri-Central 20-10 in five innings Monday at the Hoosier Heartland Conference tournament at Rossville.

Abbi Merritt and Shelby Eaton both had three hits for Sheridan, including a double for Merritt. Mac #11 also hit a double, she had two hits and scored three runs while driving in two more. Abby Dallas also had two hits.

Sheridan completed the regular season 2-16 and plays host Cascade Tuesday, May 21 in the first round of Class 2A Sectional 43.

Carmel dropped two games to start the week.

On Monday, the Greyhounds fell 13-3 in five innings at Harrison. Carmel scored all three of its runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead: Katherine Warren bunted in Winni Owens, then Alex Longstreth hit an RBI bunt to score Grace Sharp. Warren got home when Mia Fleming drew a bases-loaded walk.

Harrison scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead. Longstreth finished with two hits, while Paxton Law hit a double.

The Hounds lost 6-0 Tuesday at Shelbyville. Law hit two doubles, while Fleming had one double and Longstreth hit a single. Emily Smith pitched a complete game, striking out four.

Carmel is 8-20 and hosts Greenfield-Central on Thursday.
