William Lawrence “Bill” Bentley, 83, Logansport, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. He was born on July 6, 1939, to Chester and Mary Alice (Reel) Bentley in Noblesville.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Sr. and Mary Alice (Reel) Bentley; brothers, Chester Jr., David, and Keith; sister, Brenda (Bentley) Purser; children, Matthew Bentley and Mark Campbell; and his wife, Mary Alice (Underwood) Bentley.
Bill leaves behind his beloved partner of 22 ½ years, Betty Campbell; sons, William Scott (Jenny) Bentley of Noblesville, Joe (Sherry) Krutz of Logansport, and Dale Campbell of Logansport; daughters, Amy (Jeff) Mulvaney of Tipton, Kim (Roy) Goins of Royal Center, Ind., and Cyndi (David) Kropff of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; brother, Terry (Deborah) Bentley; grandkids, Anthony (Sandra) Mulvaney, Jeffrey (Cassandra) Mulvaney Jr., Matthew Mulvaney, Shelby (Brandon) McKibben, Alexander Bentley, Alyssa Kropff, Dylan Bentley, Emma Malott, Sam Malott, Shawn McPeak, Stephen McPeak, Shaela Strayer, Zack Hoover, Dustin Strayer, Jeremy Strayer, and Jacob Strayer; great-grandkids, Cheyenne Mulvaney, Eli Mulvaney, Rylyn Malott, Luca L Malott, LaShawn Buchanan, and Natalia Buchanan; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill graduated from Noblesville High School with a GED in 1985. Prior to this, he served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1962. He fought in the Korean Conflict and Berlin Flare-up, then served out the remainder of his military career in Berlin, Nuremberg, Germany. He also served on the Noblesville Police Department Reserves in the 70s and early 80s for five years. He worked at Central Soya for 12 years, Indiana Developmental Training Center as a Maintenance Supervisor (all the kids there called him Grandpa) for five years, and retired from the Noblesville School System after 11 years in maintenance.
He enjoyed working with his hands and using his imagination, constantly making things with this or that. He also enjoyed making items out of wood. Bill was, as he liked to say, “A jack of all trades, master of none.”
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m., on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville.
