August 23, 1932 – November 26, 2023
Yvonne Sliwa passed away peacefully at her Cicero home at the age of 91 years old of congestive heart failure. She was married to the late Ziggy Sliwa and was the loving mother of three children: Mickey, Barbara, and Thomas. She was also grandmother to nine grandchildren.
She came here from Poland in the 1950s with literally the shirt on her back and built a wonderful, productive life in Merrillville, Ind. Later she moved to Warsaw, then to Noblesville, and lastly to Cicero.
Yvonne worked many years as a nurse’s aid at a hospital in Gary, Ind. During leisure time she enjoyed golfing and playing the game of tennis. She was a woman of faith and an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Yvonne was an inspiration to her children who could always count on her for support. She enjoyed babysitting with her grandchildren, and as they grew up, she loved taking trips with them and her family. She attended many of their school functions, including school concerts, sporting events, and cheerleading.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Godovska; her husband, Ziggy Sliwa; a daughter, Barbara Bednarz; and daughter-in-law, Sue Sliwa.
Surviving her are two sons, Thomas Walter Sliwa of Cicero and Mickey Sliwa of Fishers; and nine grandchildren, Jessica, Sandi, Katie, Phillip, Jennifer, Carrie, Keith, Kevin, and Kim; plus several great-grandchildren.
