Phi Beta Psi

The aroma of smoked pork loin drifted through the air outside the Sheridan Elementary School cafeteria at the annual Pork Loin Dinner. Inside, members of the Theta Alpha Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Psi and the Sheridan Lions Club were preparing for their friends, family, and community members to arrive.

Volunteers smiled as they served plate after plate, and before the night was over, a record 300 meals had been enjoyed. Friends and families filled the cafeteria while homemade desserts disappeared almost as quickly as the pork loin itself.

Behind the scenes, 20 sorority members and 15 Lions Club members worked side by side. Some had spent the morning seasoning meat and arranging desserts, while others sold tickets, set up tables, or stayed late for clean-up. Everyone knew the dinner was about more than food.

At the end of the evening, their hard work had raised $3,000 for community benevolence, local cancer patients, and cancer research.

The organizations thank United Feeds for donating the pork loin, Sheridan Community Schools for use of the cafeteria and kitchen, and Helena Foods for donating the seasoning. Most of all, they are grateful for the support of Sheridan and the surrounding communities, which made the evening such a success.
