More than just flags: Kiwanis Club of Westfield supports kids & families

Submitted

As Memorial Day approaches, residents across Westfield will once again begin seeing American flags proudly displayed throughout neighborhoods as part of the Kiwanis Club of Westfield’s Avenue of Flags program. For many families, the flags have become a meaningful tradition and visible reminder of gratitude, remembrance, and community pride.

This year feels especially meaningful as our nation begins recognizing the upcoming 250th anniversary of America. The Kiwanis Avenue of Flags program serves as a reminder that some of the best things happen when a community comes together.

What many people may not realize is that the Kiwanis is entirely volunteer driven. Early in the morning, late at night, and on lunch breaks, Kiwanis members and volunteers work together to place and retrieve thousands of flags throughout Westfield. It is a labor of love that helps support Kiwanis programs and projects benefiting children and families in Westfield.

Avenue of Flags represents what Kiwanis is all about. It is people coming together, serving others, and creating something bigger than themselves. Especially as we begin recognizing America’s 250th anniversary, it feels like a good reminder that strong communities are built when people show up for one another.

Kiwanis is a global organization dedicated to improving the lives of children, and the Kiwanis Club of Westfield works year-round to support local kids and families through service projects, partnerships, and community outreach.

As another Avenue of Flags season begins, residents can not only enjoy seeing the flags throughout Westfield, but also recognize the volunteers behind them and the impact this Kiwanis program helps make possible.

If you are interested in volunteering, learning more about Kiwanis, or checking out a meeting, please reach out or attend a meeting. The Kiwanis Club of Westfield meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Westfield Washington Public Library, 17400 Westfield Blvd.
