Westfield Washington Schools appoints McGuire Administrator of Alternative Learning

Westfield Washington Schools (WWS) has announced that Dr. Stacy McGuire, current Westfield High School Principal, has been appointed as the new Administrator of Alternative Learning for WWS.

In this new, district-wide role, Dr. McGuire will develop, implement and oversee alternative student programs and services in alignment with district and state learning objectives. Additionally, Dr. McGuire will research and propose alternative learning opportunities and experiences for students who have extenuating social, emotional, and/or academic circumstances which may interfere with their ability to be successful in a traditional educational environment. Furthermore, she will provide the necessary support services and create individualized learning plans that can lead to graduation and student success.

The concentrated focus on alternative learning is part of the district’s five-year strategic plan, Growing the Rock Way, and will provide additional resources to meet its mission to “Provide rigorous and engaging experiences to prepare all children – socially, emotionally, and academically – for their future.”

“Now more than ever we realize that alternative learning is vital for bridging gaps for students who may not thrive in a traditional school atmosphere,” said WWS Superintendent Dr. Sherry Grate. “Dr. McGuire’s passion and commitment for ALL students makes her a perfect fit to lead this new operation for WWS.”

Dr. McGuire, a WWS graduate, has been principal at Westfield High School for the past 17 years and prior to becoming principal, was a teacher and assistant principal for seven years. She will begin her new role beginning Monday, June 15.

“The staff and students of WHS will always hold a very special place in my heart,” said Dr. McGuire. “I will approach my new appointment with the same passion I approached my work at WHS and will continue to work tirelessly to serve ALL students across our district. While I will miss working with the WHS staff and students so very much, I will use many of the lessons we have learned together to continue to make a positive impact on the lives of students.”

WWS will appoint interim co-principals while the district searches for a permanent new principal. The comprehensive search and interview process will begin immediately and include gathering feedback from diverse constituent groups including students, staff, parents and community members.

  1. Why was she reassigned?

Was this new position one that Dr. McGuire asked for?You could not ask for a better HS principal. I have worked for her and 6 others. If she asked for this, I am ok. If not, I am very disappointed with this decision.

  3. What a mistake this is. The Board and the Super. does not realize what they are doing. Great instability will occur. I think this is the beginning of the end of the Superintendent and likely some board members.
