Unified Track: Fishers wins regional, Millers, Rocks make state

The three Hamilton County Unified track and field teams that competed at their respective regionals last Saturday are all headed to state.

Fishers won the Edgewood regional, marking the first-ever Unified regional championship for the Tigers. Fishers scored 125 points and had several section and flight wins in the various events.

The Tigers got two victories from Akeem Schooley in the 100 dash and long jump, with Jarrett Puma winning another 100 dash section. Brock Hunsaker won during the 400 dash, Stephen Krokos got another long jump victory and Bennett Gorak was a shot put winner.

Noblesville placed fourth at Edgewood by scoring 105 points. The top six teams at the regional advance to Saturday’s state meet at Indiana University, so the defending state champion Millers qualified for state for a record seventh time. Fishers advanced to state for the fifth time.

Noblesville’s section winners included the 4×100 relay team of Mo Ashour, Aiden Brewer, Luke Davis and Jacob Dean, Barrett Zoeller in the 100 dash, Arden Snyder in the 400 dash and Abby Gibbons in the shot put.

Up at Kokomo, Westfield finished second in that regional, qualifying the Shamrocks to state for the third consecutive year. Westfield section and flight winners were Carson Faulconer in the 100 dash and Jack Dietz in the 100 dash.
