Tigers finish their sweep of Shamrocks, Golden Eagles fall in first game of Catholic Classic

Fishers completed a Hoosier Crossroads Conference sweep of Class 4A No. 6 Westfield on Friday, beating the host Shamrocks 5-3.

The Tigers took the lead right away, with Ben Hammond scoring Huston Dunn with a center field double. Fishers loaded the bases, then Jack Brown scored when Jase Ruggles drew a walk.

Ruggles scored a run in the top of the fourth, heading home on Mayo Fernandez’s sacrifice fly. Brown batted in a run with a left field single, scoring Deagan Repp, and the Tigers led 4-0.

The Shamrocks got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth. Brayden Hibler blasted a triple to right field, bringing in Nick Fero. Matt Drozlek sent Hibler home with a center field single.

Brown led off the top of the seventh for the Tigers with a double. Noah McPeek came in to run for Brown, and he was soon home on Hammond’s left field hit. Westfield got one more in the seventh, as Logan Hoffman scored on Fero’s sacrifice fly.

Brown had a nice day at the plate, going 3-for-4. Gavin Kuzniewski got the pitching win, striking out six over six innings. Hoffman hit a third-inning double. Jackson Blevins threw three and a third innings with four strikeouts.

Fishers is 3-3 in conference play and 8-6 overall. The Tigers host games today against Lafayette Jefferson at 12:30 p.m. and Twin Lakes at 3 p.m. Westfield is 4-2 in HCC play and 8-4 overall. The Rocks host New Castle at noon today.

Guerin Catholic dropped its first game at the Catholic Classic Friday at Lafayette Central Catholic.

The 3A No. 2 Golden Eagles fell to 3A No. 9 South Bend St. Joseph 10-0 in six innings. Ian Taylor and Nolan Ratcliff both had two hits for Guerin Catholic.

The Golden Eagles are 7-2 and continue play today with a 12:30 p.m. game against Highland and a 6:30 p.m. game with the host Knights, the No. 1 team in 1A.
