Noblesville opened its season with a big win Tuesday, cruising past Hoosier Crossroads Conference opponent Avon 13-1 in a five-inning home game.
The Millers took care of business early, scoring four runs in the first inning. Gabbi Fowler got Noblesville on the board with a sacrifice fly that sent Reis Sjoholm home. Cameron Grayson and Scout Duplaga both hit RBI singles as well.
The Millers stepped up the pace in the third inning with eight runs. Grayson smacked a two-run home run, Bella Schatko and Fowler both batted in runs, and Taylor Thompson and Grayson hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Noblesville completed its scoring in the fifth inning when Schatko hit another RBI single.
“I thought we played well,” said Millers coach Deke Bullard. “We did what we wanted to do and we were able to accomplish what we wanted to accomplish. I did not expect a lopsided win like that. I felt it would be a lot closer game. But we accomplished what we wanted to do for game one.”
Grayson had a solid game, pitching four and two thirds innings and striking out five.
Noblesville is off until April 11 when it plays at Greenfield-Central.
